When we hear the word "healthcare," we often imagine something based on Western medicine. Typical examples include consultations at hospitals, prescriptions for medicine, and diagnosis using testing equipment. However, in Japan, there has long been another approach known as Eastern medicine. Examples include acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and massage.

The Strengths of Western Medicine

Western medicine excels at "removing existing symptoms in a short period of time." For example, using antibiotics for bacterial infections can improve symptoms in a short period of time. Emergency medical care, surgery, and accurate diagnosis using laboratory equipment are major strengths of Western medicine.

The strengths of Oriental medicine

On the other hand, traditional Chinese medicine excels at "balancing the entire body and preventing illness before it occurs." For example, even for ailments such as stiff shoulders, headaches, and insomnia, the cause of which remains unclear even after hospital tests, traditional Chinese medicine aims to improve these conditions by regulating the flow of qi and blood and the autonomic nervous system.

The fire engine analogy

To put it simply, Western medicine is like a fire engine that rushes to the scene after a fire has broken out. While it has the power to put out a spreading flame in one go, it is not good at preventing fires from starting.

On the other hand, Oriental medicine is like a "town manager who regularly inspects and maintains homes to prevent fires." It does not overlook small everyday signs of illness and plays a role in preventing major problems before they occur.

A life that incorporates both

The important thing is not to use only one, but to utilize both in a balanced way. Rely on Western medicine for sudden symptoms or life-threatening conditions, and incorporate Eastern medicine for chronic illnesses and improving your constitution. By doing so, you can maintain your health for a longer period of time.

By incorporating Eastern medicine into your daily care, you can live a healthier life. At our salon, we offer head massages and scalp acupuncture by acupuncturists, as well as hair styling by a hairdresser. Why not try taking care of your body from both the inside and outside to make your life more comfortable from tomorrow onwards?
