Many people wonder, "Does acupuncture really work?" When it comes to acupuncture for humans, "feelings" can affect how you perceive its effects. If you think, "This seems like it might work!", you'll feel it more easily, but if you think, "This is suspicious," you won't feel it as much. This is the so-called "placebo effect."

However, there is actually a world where this placebo effect has absolutely no effect: animal acupuncture (pet acupuncture) .

Dogs and cats don't think, "Will this work?"

For example, when a dog's lower back becomes easier to walk after acupuncture, or when a cat's appetite returns after moxibustion, these cannot be explained as "a matter of feelings."

Animals such as dogs and cats do not think that acupuncture is effective or suspicious. This is why the changes seen in animal acupuncture are considered to be the pure effect of acupoint stimulation itself . In a sense, this is easier evidence of acupuncture than for humans.

Actual examples of the effectiveness of acupuncture for pets

  • Herniated disc in dog → hind leg dragging improved

  • Elderly cat in poor health → Coat and appetite improved after acupuncture

  • Muscle fatigue in racehorses → Moxibustion relieves stiffness and makes the horse run easier

The field of "veterinary acupuncture" has already been established overseas and is widely used in the care of sports dogs and racehorses.

This is not just a story from faraway countries, but a trend that is gradually spreading in Japan as well.

A future where people and pets can live together

The concept of acupressure points and meridians is the same for both humans and animals. When pet owners see their pet regaining its vitality through acupuncture, they may be inspired to try acupuncture themselves.

"Getting both people and pets in shape" - this new approach to health is likely to attract even more attention in the future.
